City of Jacksonville Awards NLP Logix Big Data Contract

The team at NLP Logix is proud to announce that it has been selected by the City of Jacksonville to provide advanced analytics in support of the Jacksonville Journey 2.0 anti-crime program. The selection was made after a competitive bid process which required that potential vendors be able to demonstrate that they have the tools, team and experience to collect, merge and model very large and disparate data sets.

“We are very excited to have the opportunity to serve our city,” said Ben Webster, Lead Statistician. “We have already begun work on the contract and the size, scope and breadth of the data sets are some of the richest we have ever worked with.”

The Jacksonville Journey is a program that was started in 2009 by former Jacksonville Mayor John Peyton with the specific purpose of reducing violent crime. Over the years, the program has supported agencies, non-profits and community groups by focusing on prevention as well as enforcement activities.

The team at NLP Logix will be working closely with Mayor Lenny Curry’s staff to collect and merge as much data as possible around the program and then begin to apply its modeling techniques and technology around the data. They will be looking to identify trends in the various programs and activities to measure the effect they have had in reducing violent crime.

“This is a data science dream project,” said Matt Berseth, Lead Scientist. “To have access to years of city and state data around crime, incarceration, prevention and then to model and analyze it, is not only a great challenge, but a great opportunity to apply modeling techniques to solve real world challenges.”
